Ginseng:  One of its most well known benefits is the creation of energy. The Chinese traditional use of ginseng as an energy drink has been used for thousands of years with success. Ginseng also has abilities for improving mental clarity and reducing fatigue. Most people report feeling more focused and alert after ingesting ginseng. More recently, doctors are looking to ginseng as a possible treatment option for a condition known as Chronic Fatigue syndrome. This debilitating condition causes the patient to experience long bouts of extreme fatigue.

Licorice:  A component of licorice helps the adrenal gland when cortisol levels are low. It does so by inhibiting the action of 11-beta HSD2, which is type two of the enzyme 11-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. This enzyme deactivates cortisol by converting it into a ketone called cortisone. By inhibiting the activity of 11-beta HSD2, licorice affects an increase in the number of active cortisol molecules in the body, so that the adrenal cortex does not have to produce as much cortisol as it normally would if a great number of cortisol molecules were deactivated by 11-beta HSD2, according to "Chemical & Engineering News."

Licorice has been used for many centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine and still features in a number of therapeutic interventions. Modern science shows us that the root of the plant contains a compound called glycerrhizinic acid, which inhibits the breakdown of circulating cortisol at the liver. As such, it can reliably enhances the potency of any cortisol produced by the adrenal glands. This makes it very useful in cases of adrenal fatigue.

Oatstraw:  Has historically been used to help stimulate your adrenal system function, although there is little scientific research examining the effects of these herbs for this condition.

Eleuthero:  Works as an adaptogen for the adrenal glands, which means it can boost hormonal production when it is low and lower it when output is high. Nutritional Reviews notes that by normalizing adrenal hormones, the herb may have a variety of effects in the body. Ginseng can help people cope with external stresses, improve resistance to infections and boost mood and energy.

Cordyceps: The adenosine and other related compounds found in Cordyceps that help with adrenal fatigue and adrenal depletion, and by doing so, can increase energy levels and stamina and endurance.
