Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month

It might seem strange that there is only a month dedicated to the prevention of animal cruelty. Since this is something we all strive for every month. But this is the one month we go outside our echo chambers and try to spread awareness and become evangelicals for the prevention of animal cruelty.

On April 8th in particular is National Dog Fighting Awareness Day. This is not only a horribly cruel and morally objectionable practice, but it also is the leading cause of dog thefts in America.

On the 26th of this month we bring attention to horses who’ve been abused and neglected by less than empathetic owners. Often times these horses are purchased by people who think it would be ‘cool’ to own a horse. And rather than do the research or comprehend the responsibility of this undertaking the horse is brought into an unprepared home. Often they are left malnourished, ungroomed, and sometimes left for dead by uncaring owners.

If your considering bringing a lil four legged ball of love into your life, we encourage you to give adoption a consider first before looking into an expensive breeder. These cats and dogs are in need of forever homes too. Also here’s a pro tip for the more practically minded, mutts and mixed breed dogs often have fewer health problems than a purebred.
