Hearts of February
Its that time of the year again! American Heart Month. This is a time we take to observe and spread awareness about the issues surrounding heart disease and try to offer some tips to help get that heart into shape! Heart disease is the number one killer in the world, and a lot of this damage is preventable with a bit of self discipline.
The Three Pillars of Good Health:
Healthy Eating
I’m sure you’ve heard it before. Eat healthy. But what does that really mean? Well a good place to start would be your veg and fruits. Barring any allergies try to add more colors to your diet, ‘taste the rainbow’ of fresh fruits and veg. These will help you naturally regulate blood sugar and blood pressure. Do your best to stay away from the junk and learn to read labels, you’ll be horrified by the stuff they put in prepackaged food.
Healthy Mind
As it sounds this is largely to do with your personal psychology. Mindfulness here is key as it allows you to learn to live within the moment and will strengthen your mental fortitude to better tackle the trials and tribulations of life. Here you should focus on learning and experimenting with the techniques that work for you to reach some level of healthy mental health. Don’t be ashamed in this area to seek out help from friends, family or even a professional to help you along in your journey.
Physical Fitness
The mind and body are one. To be mentally strong is also to be physically strong. Meaning activity and physical exercise are just as good for your mental health if not better than therapy. Working out is more than muscles and striving for some vain mental picture of yourself. No its also about living and being able to live. Physical activity gets the blood pumping and lets you participate in life as we age as it keeps you limber and in practice. The practice of moving that is. Keep that heart healthy and get moving.
