Rest Easy
I think most people know getting enough sleep is good for you. We are all busy, and work is more demanding than perhaps it should be. But do you know HOW good for you it is? And exactly how bad sleep deprivation can be for your mind and body? Sleep is a biological requirement, it's as important as breathing and eating and is vital when taking the challenge to better your overall health. So on the 15th of March we help bring awareness to World Sleep Day, to help you get a better understanding of how important sleep is.
Healthy sleep reduces the risk of many health problems, including obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, other mood disorders and even Alzheimer’s. There’s more car wrecks caused by sleep deprivation than drinking and driving, tens of thousands of injuries and thousands of deaths caused every year. A lack of sleep has become so bad in the modern era that even the CDC has said insufficient sleep has become a public health epidemic.
So how do you get good sleep?
- Get in the habit of going to be and waking up at a set time, every day.
- Don’t consume caffeine, alcohol, sugar, spicy food at least four hours before bedtime.
- Start adding exercise to your list of habits. Just not right before bed.
- Avoid screens and digital devices as you head to bed.
- Get rid of distractions like disturbing noise or light from your bedroom.
- Beds should only be for sleeping and practicing procreation. Don’t turn your bed into an office or a living room.

Healthy Eats: Italian Salmon Pinwheels
Ingredients
- ½ cup coarse dry breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
- 1 tablespoon chopped shallot
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon chopped rinsed capers
- 1 teaspoon Renovation Tea: Italian 5 Spice Blend
- 1¼ pounds center-cut salmon fillet, skinned and cut lengthwise into strips
- 4 teaspoons low-fat mayonnaise
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Coat a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Mix ingredients in a small bowl: Renovation Tea: Italian 5 Spice Blend, breadcrumbs, oil, mustard, shallot, lemon juice, and capers.
- Working with one strip of salmon at a time: spread on each salmon strip with about 1 teaspoon mayonnaise. Spread about 3 tablespoons of the breadcrumb mixture over the mayonnaise. Starting at one end, roll the salmon up tightly, tucking in any loose filling as you go. Insert a toothpick through the end to keep the pinwheel from unrolling.
- Place in the prepared dish. Repeat with the remaining salmon strips.
- Bake the pinwheels until just cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the toothpicks before serving.
- Enjoy!
