Eat The Rainbow

Eat The Rainbow

There’s been a growing trend in teaching people to eat healthy by eating their colors. All of them. Not only does this aid to the general common sense of eating more fruits and vegetables but it also prioritizes eating foods that are high in flavonoids. Much like teas, colorful fruits and vegetables are full of flavonoids. These are the healthy compounds that make the skin of apples red and the flesh of an orange, well orange.

Flavonoids are the largest group of plant chemicals (phytonutrients), with over six thousands kinds. Recently scientists have turned to studying flavonoids after seeing the correlation between diets rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and an overall greater level of health. These flavonoids are antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and natural immune system boosters. Diets rich in flavonoids are also becoming associated with cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention.
