World Heart Day

World Heart Day

We talk a lot about heart health in this blog, and for good reason. Cardiovascular disease is the world’s number one killer and it doesn’t have to be. So this week is a very special addition to that trend. This week on September 29th, the World Heart Federation is bringing awareness to heart related health issues around the world. They seek to get you, the people of the world to promise to cook and eat healthier, exercise more, encourage children to be active, say no to smoking and spread this message through your communities.

The World Heart Federation and we at Renovation Tea would like to encourage you to make small but impacting changes to your lives. A healthy heart means being healthy. You can improve you reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, set a good example for the coming generations and improve your quality of life by doing some very simple and rewarding things:

Eating and Drinking well: Watch out for those sugars and trans-fats, both have negative effects on the health of your heart. In terms of drinking, well cut back on the alcohol. Heavy drinking puts you at risk of heart disease, cancer, ulcers, liver damage, among others.

Stop Smoking: Everyone knows how this one goes at this point. But do you know why? Besides all the nasty preservatives and additives, one of the primary reasons is the nicotine content itself, not only is it addictive but it’s also a vasoconstrictor and raises blood pressure.

Exercise: Exercise gets the heart and blood pumping, releases all those happy endorphins, strengthen the muscles in your body. This all helps to make your heart stronger and more efficient at pumping blood throughout your body. As you exercise more, it pushes more blood out with each beat, this allows it to beat slower and keep your blood pressure under control.
